Who we are
As the Friends group to the Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb, the Adirondack Park Institute provides support for the Center’s free educational and experiential programs offered to all children, families, and visitors that teach generations to care for the Adirondack Park’s unique natural and cultural resources.
Our Story

Elizabeth "Liz" Thorndike
Elizabeth “Liz” Thorndike served for nearly 16 years as an Adirondack Park Agency commissioner and then 20 years as member of the board of directors of NYSERDA.
She is an educator in the field of natural resource policy and planning and has
been part of many teaching and learning teams with the Center for Environmental Information in Rochester and adjunct faculty at Cornell where she taught “Wilderness and Wildlands: Sustaining the Built Environment.
A board member of the API for many years, she also serves currently on the boards of the Adirondack Research Consortium and Paul Smith’s College.
